The four things everyone asks, and the local ones
Cape Winelands District · Stellenbosch, Drakenstein, Witzenberg, Breede Valley and Langeberg
Skip Hire Questions
Will a bin come, how big should it be, what will it cost, and what may not go in it. Then the Winelands questions — permits, farms, guest houses and student flats.

Choosing the size
A single room or a small garden is a 2m³ or 4m³. A kitchen or bathroom strip-out is a 6m³. A whole-house renovation, an estate or a farm clean-up is an 8m³. If you are between sizes, describe the job and let the operator size it.
What sets the price
We do not publish a from-price, because the price depends on the town, the tip fee, the weight and the hire period. You get a quote per job, with the lines shown, before anything is dropped. The costs page explains each line.
Permits and the street
A bin in your yard needs nothing. A bin on a public road or verge needs written consent from the municipality — Stellenbosch, Drakenstein and Langeberg all publish that requirement, and Stellenbosch additionally requires the bin to carry the operator's details, reflective chevrons and a cover.
What may not go in
Asbestos, tyres, lead-acid batteries, gas cylinders, liquid waste, medical waste, paint and solvent, and anything corrosive, explosive or flammable. The rules come from the national landfill norms and standards, not from the operator's preference.
Winelands-specific
Farms need a truck that can reach the yard, and the season decides the week. Guest houses and venues need a collection date that does not collide with a booking. Student flats need more than one bin. Each of those has its own page.
Working with the municipalities
The district is five municipalities with five rulebooks. The guide page sets out which town is in which municipality, and the skip-permits page quotes the by-law wording where it could be read — and says plainly where it could not.
Before the truck arrives
Check the standing place, the overhead clearance and the approach. A bin that arrives to find a car on the driveway or a branch across the entrance is a failed delivery, and the return trip is charged.
Have the load described as accurately as you can. A bin booked for garden waste that turns out to be rubble will be re-priced, and the tip fee changes.
When the load is refused
A facility can refuse a load that contains prohibited material, and the operator then has to bring it back or send it elsewhere. That is why asbestos, tyres, batteries, gas cylinders and liquids are named on the what-we-take page: one prohibited item turns a completed collection into a problem.
Questions before you book
Short answers. Where the answer depends on the operator, the page says so instead of inventing a number.
Do you deliver the same day?
Sometimes, depending on the operator's round and the town. Ask for the earliest date when you send the request rather than assuming same-day.
Is the bin dropped and collected by the same company?
Yes. The operator who quotes you delivers, collects and tips.
Can I put a bin on the pavement?
Only with the municipality's written consent, and only where the bin meets that municipality's marking and cover requirements.
What happens if it rains and the load is wet?
Wet garden waste and soil get heavier, and weight is what the tip fee is based on. Cover the bin where you can.
Do you serve Somerset West?
No. Somerset West and the Helderberg are outside the Cape Winelands District.
Do I need to be at the property when the bin is collected?
It helps. The driver needs the bin accessible and clear of vehicles.
Can I put a bin on a neighbour's property?
Only with the neighbour's permission. It is private land, so the municipality's consent does not apply.
Who is responsible if the load is over the weight limit?
Whoever agreed the load. The quote states the allowance, and the rate per ton over it, so the position is known before the bin is filled.
Does a skip need to be covered?
Stellenbosch's by-law requires a bin on a public road to be covered at all times except when it is being filled or emptied. Covering it is also the practical way to keep rain out of a garden or soil load.
What is a swap?
The full bin is collected and an empty one is left in its place, so the site keeps working. It is booked at the start, not requested on the day.
Can I get a skip for one day?
Ask. Some operators price a minimum period rather than a single day.
Do you serve farms on private roads?
Yes, when the truck can reach the yard. Gate width, road surface and turning space are the three things the operator needs to know.
Which towns are outside your area?
Somerset West, Strand, Gordon's Bay and the rest of the Helderberg are outside the Cape Winelands District.
The request
Request a bin for your address
The town and one line about the job — what you are clearing, the size, the date and any access constraint. The town decides which operator sees it, and the price comes back as a quote, not a guess.
- One form. No account, no card, no obligation.
- A local operator confirms the size, the hire period and the price.
- Nothing is dropped until you accept the quote.
The request desk is not the skip company: the operator who quotes you delivers and tips the bin. The footer of every page says the same thing.
