Skip Hire Towns in the Cape Winelands

The Cape Winelands District is five municipalities. Which one your town falls under decides the permit rule, the tipping point and how far the truck travels — so that is how we group the towns.

Why the municipality matters more than the map

Two towns can be fifteen minutes apart and still sit under different by-laws. Stellenbosch and Drakenstein both require written permission before a skip stands on a public road, but they ask for it differently and they tip at different facilities.

Franschhoek, Klapmuts, Pniel and Kylemore are Stellenbosch Municipality, not Drakenstein. That surprises people, and it changes which facility your rubble goes to and which office you ask for permission.

Stellenbosch Municipality

Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Klapmuts, Pniel and Kylemore. General waste from this municipality has been redirected to a private landfill in the City of Cape Town area since 2019, and the Klapmuts transfer station runs near capacity — both of which affect how a skip load is tipped and how long a collection can take.

Drakenstein Municipality

Paarl, Wellington and Simondium. Drakenstein's by-law wants building waste kept on the premises where it is generated, and allows a bulk container on a verge only on written request and for a set period. Residents may also tip one bakkie or trailer load a month at the municipal facility, up to one ton, with a municipal account.

Witzenberg, Breede Valley and Langeberg

The district reaches well past the four anchor towns. Tulbagh and Ceres sit under Witzenberg, Worcester under Breede Valley, and Robertson under Langeberg. Distances are longer and the facility rules are different again — Robertson's transfer station, for example, does not accept building and demolition waste at all.

A town we have not listed

If your town is in the Cape Winelands District and it is not on this page, ask anyway. The honest answer depends on whether an operator will actually drive there, and we would rather tell you no than take a booking we cannot deliver. Towns outside the district — Somerset West, Strand, Gordon's Bay and the rest of the Helderberg — belong to the Western Cape site, not this one.

Questions before you book

Short answers. Where the answer depends on the operator, the page says so instead of inventing a number.

  1. Which municipality is Franschhoek in?

Stellenbosch Municipality. Stellenbosch's own annual report lists Franschhoek, Klapmuts, Pniel, Kylemore and Simondium's neighbours among its towns and rural communities, and Drakenstein's ward map places Simondium in ward 1. Getting this wrong changes the permit office and the tipping point.

  2. Do you cover Somerset West?

No. Somerset West and the Helderberg are outside the Cape Winelands District and are served by the Western Cape skip-hire site.

The request

Request a bin for your address

The town and one line about the job — what you are clearing, the size, the date and any access constraint. The town decides which operator sees it, and the price comes back as a quote, not a guess.

  1. One form. No account, no card, no obligation.
  2. A local operator confirms the size, the hire period and the price.
  3. Nothing is dropped until you accept the quote.

The request desk is not the skip company: the operator who quotes you delivers and tips the bin. The footer of every page says the same thing.

The request slip

Five fields. Your town decides which operator sees it.
