Skip hire in Wellington

Wellington is smaller than Paarl and sits closer to the farms. Skip work here is a mix of town renovations and smallholding clear-ups, and both are governed by Drakenstein's by-law.

For a smallholding producing a season's worth of general and garden waste, that allowance is not the answer. A skip, or a series of swaps, is.

Where the waste goes

Wellington's facility is the Wellington Landfill Site at Interpace. Drakenstein publishes it with the rest of its solid-waste sites (Drakenstein solid waste page). The same resident allowance applies as in Paarl: one bakkie or trailer load a month, capped at 1,000 kg, Drakenstein waste only, with a municipal account.

Permission to put a bin on the street

Drakenstein's by-law applies here as it does in Paarl: building waste containers are kept on the premises (section 22(1)), and a bulk container on a verge needs a written request and the municipality's approval for a set duration (section 22(2)) — https://openbylaws.org.za/akn/za-wc023/act/by-law/2020/integrated-waste-management/eng@2020-05-29.

Drakenstein's by-law also prohibits depositing waste on a public road or place outright, so the written approval is worth having in hand before the bin arrives (Drakenstein waste by-law, 2020).

Access and practical details

Wellington's edge runs into agricultural land. Farm roads, farm gates and soft ground are the access issues, and a loaded skip truck is heavy. Tell the operator it is a farm or smallholding when you send the request.

Which size for the job

A town renovation is a 6m³. A smallholding's general and garden clean-up is an 8m³, or repeated 6m³ swaps if the waste comes in over weeks rather than all at once. A single outbuilding clear is a 4m³.

A job this town books

A Wellington smallholding clearing an outbuilding and a season of garden waste books the 8m³, and asks the operator to confirm the truck can reach the yard. That single question at booking avoids the commonest failed delivery on the town's edge.

Smallholdings on Wellington’s edge

Wellington's town centre is compact, and its edge is agricultural. Both are served, and they need different trucks. A town renovation wants a bin in a driveway; a smallholding wants a bin on firm ground with a route in for a loaded vehicle.

Say which one you are when you send the request. The same size bin can be the right answer in both cases, but the delivery risk is not the same.

Town and farm, two bookings

Wellington's jobs split cleanly. In town it is a renovation or a garage clear-out with a driveway to stand in. On the edge it is a smallholding with a season's garden waste, an outbuilding to empty and a gate the truck has to fit through.

Both are ordinary bookings; they are just not the same booking. Saying which one you are at the start saves a second conversation about the truck.

Questions before you book

Short answers. Where the answer depends on the operator, the page says so instead of inventing a number.

  1. Do you deliver skips in Wellington?

Yes. Send the request with the town, the load and the date, and an operator who covers Wellington comes back with a price. If no operator can reach your address, we will tell you rather than take the booking.

  2. How soon can a bin reach Wellington?

Wellington is close enough to Paarl that the two are usually worked in one round. A morning request can sometimes be a same-week drop; ask for the earliest date rather than assuming it.

  3. What should not go in a Wellington bin?

Asbestos, tyres, lead-acid batteries, gas bottles, liquid waste, paint and solvent, and anything explosive or flammable. Those exclusions come from the national landfill norms and standards, not from the operator's preference. The same Drakenstein rules apply on this side of the municipality as in Paarl.

Skip hire in Wellington

Request a skip for Wellington

Wellington is in Drakenstein Municipality. The request goes to an operator who delivers there, and the quote comes back with the size, the hire period and the tip leg shown.

  1. One form. No account, no card, no obligation.
  2. A local operator confirms the size, the hire period and the price.
  3. Nothing is dropped until you accept the quote.

The request desk is not the skip company: the operator who quotes you delivers and tips the bin. The footer of every page says the same thing.

The request slip

Five fields. Wellington goes to an operator who covers Wellington.
